Royal connection to Thurles could boost tourism in Tipperary

Thurles councillor Jim Ryan has asked the Thurles-Templemore Municipal District Council to write to King Charles to invite him to Thurles.
He said the British Monarch has a family connection to Thurles through Lady Elizabeth Poynz.
Lady Elizabeth Poynz was married to Viscount Thomas Butler of the House of Ormond and lived in Black Castle. She died in 1673 and is buried in St Mary’s Graveyard.
Kathleen Prendergast from Community and Economic Development said she would raise the request with the tourism office.
