SHOWTIME: Tipperary drama group to perform Sylvia

Thurles Drama Group’s Autumn production is A.R. Gurney’s Sylvia – an idiosyncratic love story of sorts between married couple Greg and Kate and a stray dog Sylvia, which Greg has brought home.

Kate is reluctant to take on the commitment of an animal and wants the dog out of the house. But Sylvia slowly inserts herself into the relationship.

She has a meeting of minds with Greg. Bonding, they discuss the meaning of life and the cosmos.

But for Kate, it seems that Greg is becoming obsessed with Sylvia.

With their marriage beginning to fall apart, tensions start to rise. Gurney’s play is about love, relationships, instinct, loyalty and life’s vagaries as well as complexities.

More than anything, it’s a very funny show.

With more witty one-liners than a stand-up comedy show, characters so charming they put James Bond to shame, and heart-tugging moments that might make even a robot cry (I promise I won’t), Sylvia invites you on a tail-wagging adventure into the peculiar bonds we share with our pets.

Monday, Novemeber 13 to Saturday, November 18, Doors 2pm.

Tickets €16/€12 concession.
