The Saints warmed up for this Sunday’s visit of Dublin team Black Forge in the FAI Junior Cup with a comfortable win over Cashel Town B under the lights at Cooke Park in the first round of the Tipperary Cup.

Philip Drohan had the ball in the net on two minutes but the goal was ruled out for offside. They had the bulk of possession and after a series of probing attacks, and corners, they took the lead on 19 minutes when an Ed O’Dwyer shot was deflected past Cashel goalie Ross Minogue.

Thomas Riordan had Cashel’s first shot in anger but hit it straight at Saints ‘keeper Adrian Walsh on 23 minutes.

It was 2-0 on 32 minutes when Philip Drohan’s left wing cross saw David Slattery rise to head home in the area. Saints continued in the ascendancy and went in at the break two goals to the good.

Damien Mormand received a straight red card on 36 minutes to make Cashel’s task even harder.

Danny O’Brien marked his return to the St Michael’s team when he was on hand at the far post to finish a Joey Mulcahy cross to make it 3-0.

David Slattery then made it 4-0 on 53 minutes from close range.

Danny O’Brien scored the fifth goal on 68 minutes from a close range rebound and Saints used their bench in the second half bringing in Cillian Coonan, Mikey Bowes and Jimmy Carr as they cruised to an easy victory.
