The €450,000 upgrade works planned for the Suir Blueway between Carrick and Clonmel over the next 18 months will be done outside the main tourist season as much as possible, Tipperary County Council’s latest monthly meeting was told.

The improvement works will be conducted on 20km of the amenity walk along the old River Suir towpath and the deadline for their completion is July, 2024.

Brian Beck, the Council’s Director of Economic, Community & Rural Development Services, said the council won’t be seeking to acquire anymore land from landowners with property adjoining the Blueway for this project.

It will instead by upgrading the existing pathway and the erection of signage will be a major part of the project.

He stressed that the council will get the work done outside the tourist season to limit the impact on the locals and tourists using the walk and cycleway.

Mr Beck was responding to Clonmel Cllr Siobhán Ambrose who sought an update on the project, which secured €450,000 funding under the Goverment’s Outdoor Recreation & Infrastructure Scheme last November.
