A minute of silence also observed at Tipperary County Council's January meeting as a mark of respect to the late Bridie Hammersley

A minute of silence was observed by councillors and officials at the start of Tipperary County Council’s January meeting on Monday as a mark of respect to former councillor Bridie Hammersley from Clonoulty, who passed away on Thursday, January 2.

A vote of sympathy was also passed at the monthly meeting of the elected council in the Civic Offices in Nenagh to the family of the former Fianna Fáil councillor who was co-opted onto the former South Tipperary County Council in the 1990s to fill the seat held by her late husband Cllr Timmy Hammersley following his death.

The minute of silence and vote of sympathy were proposed by Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Declan Burgess from Cashel and seconded by Cllr Mary Hanna-Hourigan from Cappawhite.

Mrs Hammersley’s Requiem Mass in Clonoulty at the height of the snow and ice weather conditions on Sunday, January 5 came to national prominence last week due to the huge community effort to clear roads, footpaths and car parking areas in the village to ensure the funeral cortége and mourners could access St John the Baptist Church and local cemetery.
