The West's Awake: Tipperary walking club enjoys weekend in the hills around county Mayo

Nenagh Walking Club enjoyed a fantastic weekend of walking in Westport recently.
We were so fortunate to have great weather and excellent walking conditions.
Our fitter members climbed Croagh Patrick at a height of 746 metres and Mweelrea, the highest peak in Connemara at a height of 814 metres.
There were moderate walks on offer which included Oghilles Loop in Newport and a coastal walk overlooking two spectacular beaches - Silver and White strands.
The popular Diamond Hill, Connemara, was the chosen walk finishing off our weekend and was thoroughly enjoyed by all as we reluctantly said goodbye to the delightful scenery in the west.
There are plans in place already for next year’s walking weekend away.
We are very grateful to our leaders Margaret, Caitríona and Anne for leading these walks so expertly and to Cyril for organising the hotel accommodation.
This Thursday, September 21, Connie is on the road again leading a walk in the Burren National Park. This is a looped route starting and finishing at Gortlecka cross taking in Lough Avalla Farm.

On Sunday, September 24, Margaret will lead a hike in the Comeraghs.
