'There will be uprisings,' Councillor says there is a lot of local frustration around road schemes

Councillor Noel Coonan said people are “frustrated” by the process of applying for the Local Improvement and Community Involvement schemes.
He said people who are not approved have to apply and reapply and in the interim do not know what to do.
He asked that the council simplify the process.
“There will be uprisings,” said Cllr Coonan.Cllr Coonan said the local authority has a responsibility to ensure people have access to their homes. And that all homeowners should be “treated equally.”
District Engineer Thomas Duffy said that the eligibility process is determined by the central government departments and not up to the council.
The LIS scheme provides funding for improvement works on private and non-public roads.
The CIS scheme provides funding for communities to repair local roads that are not on the council’s main programme.
The LIS scheme is funded by the Department of Transport and the CIS Department of Rural and Community Development.
