Thurles councillors to ask Irish Rail to review timetable

Thurles/Templemore Municipal District is to write to Iarnród Éireann asking the to review their Thurles Cork route.

Councillor Jim Ryan proposed the correspondence at this week’s sitting of Thurles/Templemore Municipal District Council.

He said the change is necessary for students to make it to Cork on time in the morning.

Councillors Seamus Hanafin, Sean Ryan and Peggy Ryan all supported the proposal. Cllr Hanafin said more people would use the service if they could get to their destination on time.

Cllr Sean Ryan said he himself wrote to Iarnród Éireann when he was in college about the timetable. He said it only needs to be amended by half an hour.

“That was 24 years ago, and it wasn’t done. It needs to be done. It’s going on a long time,” said Cllr Ryan.

Cllr Peggy Ryan said she raised the issue just last year with the rail company.

They replied that they were aware of the issue and were looking into it.

She said they told her they were awaiting funding. She added that she agrees with her colleagues.
