Thurles District Court has paid tribute to registrar Eilish Fitzgerald in her final week in court.

Court staff, members of An Garda Síochána and Judge William Aylmer assembled at a sitting this week of Thurles District Court to wish the long-serving and much-loved registrar well in her new role.

Senior solicitor Patrick Kennedy said while it was a sad day for them, they all wished Eilish well.

Mr Kennedy said that everyone was very grateful to Eilish for the kind and respectful way she worked with them, and for having trained her colleagues to do the same.

“It is very sad but she is not moving very far. We all wish her the very best in the future,” said Mr Kennedy.

Inspector James White spoke on behalf of the gardai who had past and present who had served in the court.

He said he has known Eilish for 20 years and that she had been a great support to him personally, but also to the more than 100 gardaí who have come through the court.

The Inspector said that Eilish always supported them and their work.

“In that time Eilish has been a rock and has never led us asunder. She has helped the gardai numerous times and for that we are grateful. I want to thank you and wish you all the best” said Inspector White.

Eilish’s colleague Tommy Mockler paid tribute to her and the support she offered him when he was just starting out.

“Best of luck. You will be missed by all,” said Mr Mockler.

Judge Alymer said that he had not been at the court long but endorsed everything everyone had said.

“Without Eilish and her colleagues, we simply could not do our jobs. I thank Eilish and all her colleagues and I wish her all the best, said Judge Alymer.

Eilish, who has been working in the district courts of Nenagh and Thurles for more than 25 years, thanked everyone for their kind words and said she would miss the courts.
