On Friday, September 20 2024, Dr Michael Casey Fellow of the Irish State Mr John Wort Chairman and Founder Durlas Eile Eliogarty Memorial Committee attended the British and Irish Trading Alliance in Limerick.

It was the launch of the new Chapter in Limerick.

Mr Paul Whitnell President of BITA Welcomed all members of Bita from all over Ireland and overseas. It was a very successful event and a learning experience for me I didn't know much about BITA before but now I am very aware of what BITA does for small businesses here in Ireland Great Britain and other Countries.

On behalf of the Durlas Eile Eliogarty Memorial Committee, I would like to wish the new Limerick Chapter every success in the future.

For myself, I met a very nice gentleman Mr Hilary Beirne. He is the Organiser of the St Patrick’s Day Parade in New York.

Hilary was one of the main speakers on the night I was very impressed with what he had to say about the One Million Irish overseas who don't have a voice in what goes on here at home in Ireland.

Hilary said they would love to have a say get involved and set up their business here in Ireland, but most importantly to have someone to represent them.

We are one of the few countries in Europe that doesn't have a Minister in Government or anyone in the Seanad to represent them. Hilary is putting himself forward for that position he is canvasing to be a Candidate for Seanad N.U.I. Constituency.

I wish him well in his canvasing and I hope he will be successful. Hilary, a very popular man in New York his experience in the St Patrick’s Day Parade and people in business would be a great asset to our country.

Hilary and I had a great chat about the Durlas Eile Eliogarty Memorial Committee and St Mary’s International Garden of Remembrance we had a lot in common.

His love for his country after  30 years in New York his dedication to St Patrick’s Day Parade and the many Irish in America has to be admired and acknowledged.

His love of the Irish involvement in the St Patrick's Day Parade going back to 1762.

Hilary has written a history on it. A celebration of Irish Heritage and Service  The 69th Regiment a Legacy of Service and Irish American Pride.

Hilary invited me and members of the Durlas Eile Eliogarty Memorial Committee over to New York next year to participate and March in the Parade.

All going well I hope we will be able to in passion to accept Hilary’s kind invitation. I would like to tell you about Hilary he is from Boyle Co Roscommon and was educated at University College Galway University College Dublin.

Atlantic Technology University Mountbellew Campus, formally known as the Franciscan Agricultural College in Mountbellow  Co Galway and the City University of New York at Hunter College.

He holds a master’s degree in Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences.

In 1998 after working for a number of years in the agricultural industry during which he introduced the Wrapping of Baled  Silage into the west of Ireland, (then a new innovation in agriculture) Hilary Beirne emigrated to the United States.

Two weeks after arriving in New York he volunteered at the St Patrick’s Day Parade. For the past  30 years, he has worked as an educator and in various capacities with the world’s largest and oldest St Patrick’s Day Parade.

Throughout the years he helped modernise the parade operations thereby ensuring it was fully funded.

Currently, he serves as the chief of Administrative Officer of the Parade.

The 69th Regiment recognised Mr Beirne in 2012 for his outstanding support of the Fighting 69th  Regiment.

In 2017, he was designated an Honorary  Member of the Regiment by order of the Secretary of the United States Army. Other awards, the New York Man of the Year, The Arts and Culture Medal, the New York Hero Award, The Golden Bridges Award, and the upcoming publication of the 2024 - 2025 Who’s Who in America. Hilary T Beirne is a true Irish man who emigrated and became an inspiration for all our young people today.

I wish him well in all his ventures.
