The Bypass For Thurles group will be issuing an election pledge to all General Election candidates standing in the Tipperary North constituency over the coming weeks.

The pledge will seek a firm commitment from candidates to support the inclusion of the project in the NDP and for funding to be secured as part of the next Dáil term.

Sinn Féin General Election candidate Dan Harty hosted a campaign meeting for the Bypass For Thurles group in Hayes Hotel, Thurles on Thursday night.

He said all sitting counsellors for the Thurles area and the three sitting TDs in the Tipperary North constituency were invited to attend.

Cllr Jim Ryan was the only one in attendance.

After the meeting Bypass For Thurles founder, Dan Harty thanked those who attended.

“I would like to thank everyone that braved the elements last night to attend, we held a constructive meeting, on the back of which a comprehensive campaign plan was agreed.”

“The omission of the Thurles Bypass project from the National Development Plan is unacceptable, and this campaign will seek to put the project firmly back on the agenda for the upcoming General Election and to make the strongest case possible for it to be included in the National Development Plan as part of its mid-term review in early2025.”

“It was disappointing that more of our local representatives didn’t attend the meeting to help shape our campaign and I would like to thank Cllr Jim Ryan for his attendance and constructive contributions.”

Among other initiatives, the Bypass For Thurles Group is also committed to making a substantial submission to Transport Infrastructure Ireland as part of the public consultation phase of the mid-term review of the NDP
