Thurles secondary school welcomes 138 new students

From the Ursuline Secondary School notes
The Ursuline welcomed 138 First Year students on Wednesday, August 28 for the start of their Secondary School education.
In the morning, they were assigned to their base classes and met their class tutors and Year Head, Ms Carroll.
They got a tour of the school, sorted with lockers, books, copies, journals and timetables.
The afternoon was spent on theAstro Turf soaking up the sunshine and playing games in their class groups.
It was a lot of fun and everyone was on hand to ease them into the first day of what is often a very daunting transition from primary school.
The ice-cream a few minutes before the last bell was a welcome treat and a chance to sit and chat before they went home.
On Friday at lunchtimeMs Callinan organised a creative Autumn art treasure hunt to keep the First Years entertained.
Divided into groups they had a list of items to find, such as leaves, acorns and twigs, which they turned into wonderful artworks.
It was another opportunity for the students to explore the school grounds and get to know their classmates better.
Everyone hopes they will be happy in the years ahead.
