Third place finish for Clonmel AC's Cathal de Faoite

26-year-old Clonmel AC athlete, Cathal de Faoite, continues to improve with every race under the guidance of coach Patrick Davoren.

Taking a break from the tough cross country scene, Cathal dipped his toe back onto terra firm when he ran in the Kilkenny Medieval Mile.

He produced an excellent performance in an event held during Storm Darragh.

Cathal just ran out of ground to finish a very close third behind Kilkenny City Harrier Ruairi McEvoy, following on from his fine third place finish at the National Novice Cross Country Under 19 championship.

In a field of 253 athletes, Cathal followed his coach’s advice and stayed a little off the pace and then at halfway started to move forward.

In the end Cathal was going so well that he ran out of ground, as otherwise he would have surged past the leaders. It was another positive experience and learning experience for him.

It was then back to winter graft for Cathal when he was on the Clonmel AC team that won the team event at the County Cross Country championships over 10k in Cashel.

Cross country is fundamental to having a successful track season, as it gives excellent endurance and overall physical fitness. It’s onwards and upwards for Cathal.

Compliments go to Kilkenny City Harriers and Kilkenny County Council for putting on a superb event in the middle of the city centre. It’s one of many quality road races they promote throughout the year.
