Clonmel AC athlete Emer Brennan will compete for Ireland at the European Under 20 Track and Field Championships on the Irish 4 x 400 metres relay team in Tampere, Finland from August 7-10.

She recently helped the Irish women's team to win the Premier Division title at the National Track and Field League Final in Tullamore, finishing second in the 400 metres.

Emer wore the Irish singlet for the first time at the Bauhaus Junior Gala held in Mannheim, Germany, at the end of June, which stands apart as one of the most prestigious Under 20 athletics competitions in Europe.

The celebration of young athletics talent was held for the 31st time this year. For the young athlete, receiving an invitation to this elite event is a significant honour and recognition of exceptional performance and international potential.

The meet is often used as a key selection or final preparation event for major competitions such as the European Under 20 Championships and the World Under 20 Championships.

The devastating turn of pace produced by Emer Brennan to win the Irish Under 20 Indoor 800 metres title in March marked out the Clonmel AC athlete as one to watch for the seasons ahead.

A sub 57 seconds clocking was required to secure a spot on the National Under 20 4 x 400 metres relay squad.

Following wins at regional and Munster schools level, the Presentation Clonmel TY student secured that mark when winning silver in 56.15 seconds at the All-Ireland Schools Championships in Tullamore.

She was then selected for the Irish team to compete at the Bauhaus Junior Gala in Mannheim, which saw her wear the Irish vest for the first time.

Brennan produced an assured performance in the Green on Saturday on leg 2 of the relay, coming third in three minutes 40 seconds behind Great Britain and Germany.

She was also a member of an Irish selection that raced and successfully assisted the Under 23 4 x 400 metres relay squad to qualify for the European championships in Bergen.
