World-renowned engineering company HM&V, which has a base in Thurles, opened its new global headquarters in Limerick on Friday and announced plans to add 700 new jobs to its Irish and global operations.

"It was a real pleasure to attend this opening," said Tipperary TD Michael Lowry. "This is a marvellous story of vision, ambition, courage and success."

He said that the company, under the leadership of PJ Flanagan and John Stokes, had grown and developed at an exciting pace, aided by the management team which included Tom Flanagan, David Maher, Kieran Morris and many other capable and efficient team members.

"The company has created fantastic opportunities for numerous Tipperary people. Its base at Thurles is now established and ready for further advancement," said Deputy Lowry.

H&MV had become an international leader with extensive and lucrative contracts around the globe, he said.

"I wish to compliment them on this impressive growth and expansion. The Flanagans are undoubtedly experts in their field and renowned across the world for their design, engineering and construction services.

"Yet, despite their international recognition, they have never forgotten their Tipperary roots and this was evidenced yet again last October when PJ played a major role in the development of the astroturf pitch at his former primary school in Moycarkey," said Deputy Lowry.

H&MV Engineering was founded in Limerick in 1997. The company employs 700 people in Ireland across its offices in Dublin, Limerick, Cork and Thurles. It also has a number of international locations across the UK and India, as well as in Frankfurt, Oslo and Madrid.

They will add a further 700 new roles over the next five years. Recruitment is currently underway for a number of these new positions.

The Limerick opening was attended by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Simon Coveney, who viewed the Limerick headquarters, which spans 36,000 sq ft, with enough space for 350 staff. The new space also has virtual reality facilities.

The Limerick office also features training facilities to allow H&MV to expand its graduate and apprenticeship programmes and will provide up-skilling opportunities for staff.

H&MV Engineering recently marked its 25th anniversary and Friday's announcement marked the next phase in its growth as a business.
