Tipperary council manager to investigate complaint about rubbish heap at rear of house

A councillor has urged Tipperary County Council to take action over a large heap of rubbish at the back of a house that he received representations about from constituents living nearby.

Ardfinnan Cllr Micheál Anglim said when he reported the unsightly pile of rubbish to the council, he was told the local authority couldn’t deal with the waste because it wasn’t visible to the public.

At Tipperary County Council’s March meeting he pleaded with the Council’s Director of Environment & Climate Action Services Eamon Lonergan to look at the case again.

“Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean we can’t do anything about it. It’s causing its own problems such as attracting vermin. I have given the details to Environment could we move it on a bit further,” he asked.

Mr Lonergan gave a commitment to follow up on the case highlighted by Cllr Anglim. He reiterated that litter has to be visible in public view for the council to take action under the Litter Act. But if the rubbish was causing other problems such as pollution the local authority could deal with it under other legislation.
