Tipperary designers create dress from old shower curtains and trampoline netting

The dress 'Chrysalis' was made by students at Ursuline Secondary School in Thurles
Secondary school students from Tipperary with a passion for fashion have been chosen to take part in the regional finals of fashion competition Junk Kouture.
Students Georgia Murphy, Leah Costello Corry and Katie Coonan, all from Ursuline Secondary School in Thurles, designed 'Chrysalis'.
The students explained the process of creating their design to Tipperary Live.
"This is a black, white, gold and silver butterfly inspired dress. Our head piece is composed of white branches with black and white butterflies dancing around. Our main dress is covered in butterflies, butterfly wings and other butterfly inspired aspects. The shoes have been painted black white and gold and also include butterfly inspired features.
"Our goal with our dress was to spread awareness about mental health and the effect it has on the world. It is a growing problem! We used the butterfly to symbolize hope, endurance, Development renewal, change, and recovery.
"The butterfly is also associated with the delicacy and ephemeral beauty of life. We hope that our design will help to spread awareness about mental health and show that its okay to say "I'm not okay" and to ask for help.
"We used a polyethylene plastic shower curtain, Scrap leatherette, nitrile rubber off-cuts from hydraulic seals, old plastic melting beads and trampoline netting as the materials for our design."
The regional finals of the competition will take place on March 5 and 6 this week at The Helix in Dublin.
