The residents of Moyne Road/Bellevue were delighted to learn recently that they have been awarded the Best Presented Estate in Thurles.

This competition is run annually by Refresh Thurles Tidy Towns and was judged by Mr. Martin Quinn.

Tommy Barrett, Chairman of The Moyne Road/Bellevue Residents Association spoke to the Tipperary Star this week.

“We are delighted with the news that we have been awarded the top award in the Thurles Tidy Towns estates competition.

We always enjoy taking part in this competition and it creates a great buzz throughout the summer months. I wish to acknowledge Ryan’s Cleaning, who sponsor this competition and make it possible each year.

We take great pride in our community, and as Chairman, I have to say that our success is due to all residents playing a part in keeping our estate clean and tidy.

I take this opportunity to thank all our residents, sponsors, Tipperary County Council and Thurles Tidy Towns for the continued support.”

JUDGES REPORT

Moyne Road/Bellevue has a lovely entrance with nice stonework and name plate. It offers a very pleasant view driving into the estate.

As with all my visits I was immediately struck by the flowers and colouring.

It was really wonderful to see the lovely planters and flowers around every corner and on trees, and I noted the addition of eight new flower planters. Such colour everywhere!

The key to an attractive estate is colouring, and this was there in abundance.

The way the estate is presented is a credit to the residents and to those involved in the committee.

One could not but be impressed with the efforts made by the community to ensure a strong visual impact for anyone living or visiting in the area.

I noted the addition of the bird table and the welcome sign as mentioned in your submission.

The flowers and planters are such a wonderful sight, and most houses have wonderful gardens, hanging baskets and other attractions.

Some ideas for green areas include masking concrete walls with creepers such as ivy or clematis.

These not only are aesthetically pleasing, but help reduce greenhouse gases and support local biodiversity.

Designate a small corner site for a community orchard for a variety of apple trees, plum and nut shrubs.

These trees and shrubs add to local landscaping and become a source of food for birds and wildlife.

The overall appearance of houses and gardens was of a very high standard, with some beautiful individual houses and features.

Some really beautiful gardens, hanging baskets and planters on display throughout. Once again, there are some delightful features in different gardens.

The planting around trees in the estate is also a delightful feature.
