Tipperary GAA faces record expenses of over €2 million amid growing financial deficit

Tipperary GAA held their annual convention on Sunday night in Thurles
Tipperary GAA has reported a financial shortfall for the second consecutive year, with inter-county team expenses surpassing €2 million for the first time ever.
Reported at the Tipperary GAA County Convention last Sunday evening, officials revealed the ongoing financial difficulties for the county board.
Tipperary GAA recorded the third-highest expenses in preparations for their county teams, beating everyone except Galway and Cork.
The county recorded a deficit of €126,000 in 2024, a notable increase compared to the €78,203 loss reported the previous year.
The total expenditure on preparing inter-county teams reached €2.175 million, representing a €378,000 rise from the 2023 figure of €1.797 million.
This is the highest amount ever recorded by Tipperary, surpassing the nearly €400,000 spent in 2019 - a year that saw both an All-Ireland senior hurling championship victory and a U21 title but ended with a financial loss of €371,596.
A significant portion of the spending went towards players' mileage, which climbed to €413,106 this year, up from €296,888 in 2023. The senior football team incurred higher mileage costs (€181,998) than the hurling team (€172,306).
This increase is attributed to the larger panels for both football and hurling teams.
Managerial and selectors' expenses also rose considerably, with a total of €289,061 recorded, nearly €100,000 more than in 2023.
Senior hurling management accounted for €117,787, while senior football management expenses totaled €71,942.
Travel and accommodation costs saw an almost twofold increase, reaching €181,900.
Despite the senior hurlers having a shorter season in 2024 - failing to progress from the Munster Championship as opposed to reaching the All-Ireland quarter-finals in 2023 - the county’s costs rose significantly to €765,719, compared to €587,374 the previous year. Similarly, the senior football team’s expenditure increased from €471,683 to €571,693.
Collectively, the six Munster counties spent over €11 million on inter-county teams, a record high and approximately €500,000 more than their combined total in 2023.
