Leinster House work experience by Lucy Daly

Between January 13 and 17, I was very fortunate to take part in a TY work experience programme in Leinster House.

This programme involved two days online (Monday and Friday) and three days in Leinster House (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).

To enter this programme, I had to fill out an application form, which was structured similar to an exam.

I was then notified by the Education Officer in Leinster House, Conor Reale, that I had been selected to participate in this programme where I learned a lot about the Work of the Civil Service, politicians, the different Government departments, the Seanad, laws and voting.

I got to participate in different activities, some of which involved presentations and public speaking which was very enjoyable. We were also given the opportunity to meet and speak with some politicians which was also a very positive experience.

I loved my time in Leinster House and found everything very informative, engaging and beneficial.

It provided the opportunity to develop new skills, meet new people and learn new things that were previously unknown to me.

It also helped me get a good insight into my future career and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough to any future participant who may be interested in taking part.

I feel very fortunate and grateful to have been a part of it and will take everything I learned on this programme with me in life.
