Tipperary politician criticises An Post for bringing in a postage stamp increase

Cllr Richie Molloy said the increase was unfair on the elderly
Cllr Richie Molloy has expressed his astonishment at An Post's recent proposal to increase the cost of sending a simple birthday card or letter to €1.65, effective from February 27.
He emphasised that older individuals who are unable to use electronic communication methods are being left behind by An Post.
Cllr Molloy, the manager of the Family Carers Ireland branch in Clonmel, highlighted the significance of receiving cards or letters, noting that for many elderly people, the postal worker may be the only person they see during the week.
Cllr Molloy pointed out that many elderly individuals struggle to afford postage costs and urged An Post to reconsider this latest increase, warning that it could lead to the decline of sending birthday cards and letters, as well as the diminishing of the art of letter writing if postage rates continue to rise.
