Tipperary school principal applauds remarkable gesture of generosity

Clonmel High School accepts €250,000 bursary for medical students
Clonmel High School Principal Karen Steenson has paid tribute to Doctor Terry O’Callaghan for making such a generous gesture to the school.
The school Principal said she was absolutely thrilled to receive a €250,000 bursary on behalf of the school once she got over the initial shock she felt when first approached.
“It is a phenomenal gesture and it is going to make such a difference to a student of this school every year. It will be such a great start for a student,” said the school principal.
Principal Steenson said when she came to the school ten years ago she was struck by the sense of community in the school.
HIGH SCHOOL MAN
“I heard the teachers tell the pupils that they were a High School man and that they would always be a High School man and I found this fascinating. It was something that was admirable and unique to the school and we would have former students that would come back here and speak fondly about their time in the school,” she said.
GENEROUS OFFER
“When Terry called with his generous offer I was taken aback at the start but I was not surprised because many past pupils have come back and have contributed to the school in different ways and it is a testament to his family, the experience he got in the school and I hope that in the future we can keep that sense of belonging in the community for these young men and that they will always think fondly of us in the future,” said Karen Steenson.
