Tipperary students take part in a GAA coaching and refereeing course

Written by Jonah McCarthy, St Joseph's College, Borrisoleigh
A group of TY students recently participated in the GAA Coaching and Refereeing course, expertly led by Maggie O’Grady. During the course, we learned the foundational skills of coaching and refereeing for U7s, U9s and U11s.
We honed our abilities to engage with these age groups, ensuring our methods are captivating and foster a love for the sport.
Fostering strong relationships with the players was emphasized during this coaching course.
It taught us to articulate instructions in a manner easily understood by these age groups, effectively demonstrate each drill or activity, carefully observe players during drills or activities, and analytically assess players to ensure they grasp the concepts.
The refereeing segment highlighted how to referee a Go Games blitz in a manner that prioritises respect for all players and ensures the integrity of each game.
This course also showed us that Go Games is there so all players get to participate and above all, to have fun.
