Residents endure blackout as N74 street lights await ESB approval for connection

Residents on the Cashel Road in Tipperary town may be in for several weeks without street lighting, as a cluster of 12 lamps remains out of operation, according to Councillor John O’Heney.

Speaking yesterday morning, Councillor O’Heney said he had been informed that ESB Networks returned paperwork submitted by Tipperary County Council. He believes the council has since resubmitted the amended documents.

An ESB Networks spokesperson stated it has the necessary infrastructure to complete the Tipperary Town project but cannot activate the lights until all applications and certifications are finalised. Once the required documents are received, the connections will be prioritised.

The outage affects 12 street lights between the Bansha Road Roundabout, Avondale Crescent and Fr Matthew Street. These lights have been dark since September 28, when older fixtures on the Cashel Road were removed and replaced as part of the N74 road project.

Additional concerns have been raised over three lights near the N74/Knockanrawley road junction, which also remain unlit. The new pedestrian crossing at this location has yet to be activated.

Temporary lighting has been provided by two generators installed on September 30. Despite this, the Avondale Crescent entrance remains in total darkness, with six lights out along the roadway leading to residential areas, the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre and the Cluain Arran Nursing Home & Community Hospital.
