Tipperary Welcomes is calling on all general election candidates in both Tipperary constituencies to sign the INAR Anti-Racism Election Protocol.

The INAR Anti-Racism Election Protocol is a simple commitment to oppose racism, discrimination and hate speech, and to conduct campaigns responsibly and with respect for the dignity and rights of all people, whatever their cultural, ethnic or national background.

"We are a large, diverse, multicultural county who need people to represent us, not divide us" says the group.

"The people of Tipperary expect and deserve a respectful and substantive campaign focused on the issues that matter. Tipperary has persistent problems with inadequate provision of housing, healthcare, education, water and transport. Basic services are underfunded, understaffed and frequently inaccessible.

"Like much of rural Ireland, we have been left behind economically and many in our communities live with severe deprivation and poverty. These are the issues that make a material difference in our lives, the issues where Tipperary has been failed time and again.

"We are concerned by recent vandalism and destruction of candidate posters, and urge for a peaceful election where the rights of all candidates and voters to participate are respected. No one should be subject to harassment, intimidation or threats for exercising their democratic rights."
