Trial pedestrianisation date announced for old Ballina-Killaloe bridge in Tipperary
This comes after the new Ballina-Killaloe bridge was opened in May 2025
Tipperary County Council has announced a trial pedestrianisation of the Old Ballina-Killaloe Bridge in Ballina, Co. Tipperary, as part of proposed traffic calming measures under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994.
The trial will take place from 8 am on Monday 28 July 2025 until 6 pm on Friday 17 October 2025. During this period, vehicles will be restricted from accessing the bridge to allow safer and uninterrupted use by pedestrians and cyclists.
According to the Council, the proposed changes aim to improve safety and support active travel by evaluating how traffic calming measures might benefit the bridge and surrounding area.
An Appropriate Assessment Screening has been carried out in accordance with the Habitats Directive. A preliminary examination of the nature, size and location of the trial has concluded that there is no real likelihood of significant environmental effects. As a result, an Environmental Impact Assessment is not required. An Environmental Impact Screening Determination is included in the documentation.
Drawings and details of the trial are available for inspection on the Tipperary County Council website at www.tipperarycoco.ie and at the Nenagh Municipal District Office, Civic Offices, Limerick Road, Nenagh, Co.
