Tributes paid after untimely passing of 58-year-old Tipperary organic farmer

Rest in Peace
The death occurred on Friday, December 30 at his residence of Denis Maher, Castlemoyle.
His untimely passing at the age of 58 was much regretted.
He was the second son of TJ and Betty Maher and was predeceased by his father in 2002 and his brother Thomas in 2019. His later father TJ was the first President of the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) and an MEP for fifteen years until his retirement from the European Parliament in 1994.
Before ill health set in, Denis was a registered organic farmer engaged in tillage farming.
For almost ten years, he attended the Farmers' Markets, mostly in Cahir selling his produce.
He was Safety Officer in Dew Valley Meats, Thurles for five years.
He was a lover of animals and enjoyed watching all kinds of sport.
He also had a good knowledge of local history. On Monday, January 2, his remains reposed at Devitt's Funeral Home, Cashel and after Requiem Mass on the following day, celebrated by Fr Joe Egan PP in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Boherlahan, interment took place in Ardmayle Cemetery.
Denis is survived by his mother Betty, his sister Julianne and by his two sons Colin and Donncha and their mother Ita.
Also by his granddaughter Hailie, cousins, the extended O’Brien family, relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Peace to his Soul.
