Tipperary Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Tom O’Dwyer is retiring from An Garda Síochána after 34 years’ service.

Tributes were paid to Sgt O’Dwyer at the quarterly meeting of Tipperary Joint Policing Committee at Tipperary Cahir Cashel Municipal District’s offices in Tipperary Town last Thursday where he gave a presentation on the SARA (Scanning Analysis Response Assessment) problem solving method of policing.

Sgt. O’Dwyer was based in Clonmel between 2001 and 2014 and was Sergeant- in-Charge at Clonmel Garda Station when he was appointed Crime Prevention Officer for the Tipperary Garda Division in 2014.

He has been based in Thurles since then encouraging promoting and advising on crime prevention to residential and business communities across the county.

Tipperary JPC Chairman Cllr Noel Coonan wished Sgt O’Dwyer well on his retirement and paid tribute to how approachable and pleasant he was and how dedicated he was to his job, often working outside normal working hours to serve the community.

Tipperary/Clare Garda Division Chief Superintendent Colm O’Sullivan said Sgt O’Dwyer, who will retire on December 15, had given fantastic service in Tipperary as the county’s very active Crime Prevention Officer.

“An Garda Síochána acknowledge the service he has given through the years. May he have a long, happy retirement,” he added.
