Tributes to Tipperary woman who had 'hospitable nature, sharp tongue, and heart of gold'

Rest in Peace
Tributes have been paid to a Tipperary woman who had "hospitable nature, sharp tongue, and heart of gold" after her sad passing.
Cllr Michael Fitzgerald said: "Saddened to hear of the passing of Elizabeth Murphy, one of the Glen Of Aherlow's most senior citizens and certainly one of its great characters.
"Lizzie as she was better known will be a huge loss to all her family and all who had the pleasure to know her and meet her, over her long life.
"A kind, decent lady, who was renowned for her hospitable nature, her sharp tongue, and her heart of gold. You always knew where you stood with Lizzie and I feel privileged to know she considered me as one of her friends.
"I loved to call when in Lisvernane. I enjoyed the chat about what was happening in the Glen and the cup of tea. She was certainly one of a kind, who has left her family with so many memories, that will sustain and help them in the weeks and months ahead.
"Lizzie Murphy was old stock, the salt of God's Earth. We won't see her likes again. She grew up in a different Ireland than the Ireland of today. May she now rest in God's Peace."
Elizabeth (Lizzy) Murphy (née O’Connell), Lisvernane, Glen of Aherlow, county Tipperary and formerly of Kilmoon, Lisdoonvarna, county Clare passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 12.
Predeceased by her husband Richard & son Ricky.
Deeply regretted by her loving family sons Gerard & Michael, daughters Mary, Catherine (Hannon, Dualla), Carmel (Egan, Tipperary), sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, good neighbours & friends.
