Two Tipperary men fined for challenging gardaí dealing with youths playing loud music

Two Nenagh men who shouted abuse at gardaí who were dealing with an incident ina car park in the town have both been fined by Nenagh District Court.
Daniel Clarke, 22, of 24 A, Ormond Drive, Tyone, Nenagh, and Oisín Nevin, 21, of 32 Cormack Drive, Nenagh, both pleaded to threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour and failure to comply with the directions of a garda at Kenyon Street car park, Nenagh, on January 14, 2022.
The court heard that the gardaí had received a call about a group of youths playing loud music on Silver Street.
When they arrived the group moved into the car park and the gardaí were dealing with one person who was playing music loudly through a Bluetooth system when the two defendants approached and started shouting abuse at the gardaí who felt the group should be left alone.
They were asked to desist but failed to do so, the court heard.
At one point, the gardaí were told to “get a new job”.
Their solicitor, David Peters, said that both defendants had been walking through the car park and had got caught up in a situation which they felt they shouldn't have been dragged into.
“Instead of walking away, they challenged it,” said Mr Peters.
Judge Elizabeth MacGrath fined both men €150 each for failure to comply with the directions of a garda and took the charge of threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour into account.
