UPDATE: Ukrainian refugees - including children - accommodated in Tipperary village

Well done!

As of Sunday April 2, 43 refugees of which six are children are being accommodated at our Community and Sports Centre.

This includes seven of a group that arrived around six weeks ago and hope to find suitable placements this week.

Of the current group many are young adults with professional qualifications who hope to find work  on a permanent basis. A group of 15 took part in the St Patrick's  Day Parade social which was held in Darmody's Bar on Saturday last.

They received a prize for their participation in the Parade ,enjoyed the finger-food and took part in the singing a dancing.

They sang a song in their native language as a gesture of appreciation for all the support they have received from the local community.

Popular music was provided by the Midnight Two- Stephen Quirke and Tom Quinlan from Holycross.

Their singing of an old favourite by Creedance Clearwater Revival was a musical reminder that it can rain on a sunny day

"Someone told me long ago, there's a calm before the storm, I know it's been coming for some time...I wanna know have you ever seen the rain (and bombs) coming down on a sunny day (in Ukraine)."

Earlier in the week a small group was attracted to the Sean Treacy Pipe Band Hall by the sound of pipers practicing for their weekly Monday night session.

After a while John Moloughney one of our more distinguished veteran pipers, without any introduction began playing the Ukrainian National Anthem.

It brought tears to their eyes and resulted in John receiving well-deserved hugs from his unexpected visitors.
