'Movement needed' on rollout of such facilities, meeting is told

The installation of drinking water/refill stations along the Blueway riverside walking, kayaking and cycling trail is being investigated, a meeting of Clonmel Borough District was told.

However, a report from the District Engineer also stated that the installation of toilets along the Blueway wouldn’t be feasible due to their economic cost and future management.

Cllr Siobhán Ambrose, who made the request for toilets and water refill stations, said that a lot of people walked, ran and cycled in that area, and if this facility was available they could refill their water bottles. They were looking at this a long time, and now they needed some movement and have these water refill stations rolled out.

She also said she was only looking for one toilet along the stretch of the Blueway between Clonmel and Carrick-on-Suir.

Cllr Pat English said the Blueway was a fantastic amenity and the more facilities they could provide there the better.

The District Engineer’s report also stated that signs would be arranged to indicate the location of the nearest toilets, at the Quay car park and Mulcahy Park.
