Contract signed for next phase of Carrick on Suir regeneration project

Tipperary County Council has confirmed that Tony Kirwan Civil Engineering Ltd has secured the works contract for the second phase of the Carrick on Suir Regeneration Plan.

The agreement was signed on December 1st at the Carrick on Suir Municipal District Offices on New Street.

The scheme represents a 2.9 million euro investment, financed through the Rural Regeneration Development Fund together with the council.

It forms part of the broader 17.9 million euro initiative titled A Journey from the Suir Blueway to Ormond Castle Quarter.

According to the council, the project has been developed over a number of years with sustained input from local stakeholders. Public consultation has shaped much of the design and has been central to advancing the plan.

Malachy Walsh and Partners, together with Nic de Jong Architects, make up the design team.

Phase 1 reached completion earlier this year. Phase 3, which will transform a former derelict site into a new enterprise centre, is expected to be finished in the first quarter of 2026.

Phase 2 will bring targeted improvements to Chapel Street, William Street, Castle Lane and sections of North Quay and Castle Street.

The works include new road surfaces, footpaths, lighting, line marking and landscaping. Services and utilities will also be upgraded to meet current needs and future demands.

The council says the project will strengthen links between key streets, public spaces and facilities in Carrick on Suir.

It expects the investment to underpin the town’s long term economic and social vitality by creating a safer and more appealing urban environment that supports tourism and enhances the experience of both residents and visitors.
