World Sacred Circle Dance Day was celebrated at a residence near Carrick-on-Suir which hosted a circle dance event for local  circle dance enthusiasts and some visitors.

The circle dance celebration took place at the home of Margaret Doyle at Lisadobber on Sunday, July 9.

The circle dance under the guidance of Tracey Tobin was held outdoors in Margaret’s beautiful labyrinth garden, which overlooked the stunning vista of the valley of Slievenamon.

Fifteen people from Tipperary, Waterford, Kilkenny and Dublin attended the event and enjoyed one of the oldest known dance formations shared by many cultures to mark special occasions whilst strengthening community.

It is a meditative, peaceful and uplifting dance incorporating many different dances, all circle based, and choreographed to an eclectic mix of music from classical to contemporary.

Many nationalities were represented on the day and several guests taught the group some new steps. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

Circle Dance classes will resume in Carrick-on-Suir Community Centre in September on Thursday evenings from 7-8pm.
