Carrick Davins GAA Club mourns the death of Jim McGrath

Carrick Davins GAA Club lost another great clubman recently with the passing of Jim ‘Doc’ McGrath.
Jim was an important part of the Davins Club over many years. During the 70s and 80s he was involved in every juvenile age group.
Members remember him going door to door gathering kids for matches and then jumping on the bus to the venue and picking a team.
Jim was also part of the club’s various committees over the years and served as club Chairman and PRO.
He coined the phrase Little Rebels when referring to Juvenile teams in his club notes.
He also wrote a lot about the club’s history and would insert a bit of Gaeilge in his reports, showing his interest in the national language.
Jim was also present when the club’s first lotto draw was made and, along with others, ensured that it would become the success that it is today.
With Jim’s sad passing, another piece of the Davins GAA Club’s history has passed with him.
All at Carrick Davins Club extend sincere sympathy to Jim’s wife Cilla, his daughters Sharon and Mary, his sons Mark and David, his grandchildren, brothers, sisters, all his extended family and friends. Ar Dheis De go raibh a anam.
