Clonmel native and Dublin-based barrister Gráinne Fahey has been appointed Senior Counsel, one of the highest professional distinctions at The Bar of Ireland. She was formally called to the Inner Bar at a ceremony in the Four Courts recently.

The appointment marks her transition from Junior Counsel to Senior Counsel, commonly known as “taking silk”. It is a significant professional distinction recognising barristers whose standing, experience and expertise equip them to undertake work of particular complexity and importance.

Chair of the Council of The Bar of Ireland, Séamus Clarke SC, said: “I warmly congratulate Gráinne on this significant achievement. Her appointment reflects the expertise, judgement and professional integrity required of Senior Counsel. It is a proud moment for her, and I wish her every success in this next chapter of her career.”

Gráinne is one of 17 barristers called to the Inner Bar this year, seven of whom are women. Following today’s ceremony, The Bar of Ireland has 2,084 members, including 380 Senior Counsel.
