The Hive Sauna is seeking retention permission on foot of a warning letter from the Council, as well as planning permission for a septic tank

The Hive Sauna at Clonmel is seeking retention permission from Tipperary County Council, on foot of a warning letter from the Council for carrying out development without the appropriate permission.

The facility has an existing sauna, cold bath, and changing rooms at Clashaniska Lower, Clonmel. The owner is also seeking permission to build a septic tank.

The developers have the agreement of the landowner for the development, with Cllr John Fitzgerald nominated as a public representative for the planning permission application.

In a supporting letter, Charlie Carroll of The Hive said that the sauna was “not simply a leisure attraction.”

“It provides a space where people can prioritise their wellbeing, build social connections and develop healthy recovery habits.”

Quoting positive Google reviews from their customers, the company says they have positive relationships with local organisations like Clonmel Athletics Club, the Clonmel Rugby 10s Festival, and have sponsored the Boston Scientific Half Marathon in Clonmel.

Claiming that The Hive is a valuable tourist commodity for Clonmel, Mr Carroll also made the point that the location of the sauna is essential, with a “sense of privacy and peaceful atmosphere”.

“We respectfully ask Tipperary County Council to recognise the value of a facility of

this nature and the contribution it can continue to make to the town and surrounding Community.”

A decision is due from Tipperary County Council by mid-December.
