Concern at caravans at popular commercial park in Tipperary

Efforts by Tipperary County Council to have a number of caravans moved from the commercial park at Stereame, Nenagh, were limited by the fact that they were parked on private land, the Administrator of the Nenagh Municipal District authority, Rosemary Joyce, told local councillors at their April meeting.

She said the issue had been referred to the Planning Section of the council as the encampment had been deemed to be an unauthorised development. The site had been visited by enforcement officers and the council was using the legal powers it had to move the caravans from the locality.

Adjoining property owners had been in contact with the council in relation to certain activities taking place on the site and the impact the caravans were having on their businesses. But because the encampment was on private lands the council was limited in what it could do.
