Good news as full road closure off the cards at Latteragh north Tipperary road project

The Latteragh Road Scheme, the largest regional roadworks scheme currently in construction in the state, is about 70% complete but a full road closure has been deferred to 2027
The Council say that construction “continues to progress well across” the €35 million Latteragh Realignment, currently the largest regional road project in progress in the country.
It is also the most complex and capital-intensive road construction project undertaken directly by Tipperary County Council since delivery of the M7 and M8 motorway projects.
Thanking the public for their patience and cooperation, the Council pointed out that that the “scale and extent of the works is not always apparent from the public road.”
A proposal to close the main R498 between Borrisoleigh and Ballimomana Cross for about two weeks was recently advertised, however the Council say this is no longer necessary.
However, is is “likely that a full road closure will be required in Q1 2027 when further key phases of pavement works are scheduled.”
“The project is now in a phase where completed sections of permanent works are increasingly becoming visible across the route and efforts continue to transfer traffic onto newly completed pavement areas as soon as practicable.
“The project is currently approximately 70% complete and remains on programme for substantial completion during Q2 2027.
“Traffic management arrangements remain necessary at a number of locations on the R498 to facilitate the safe delivery of the works.
“Every effort continues to be made to minimise delays and inconvenience to road users while maintaining a safe working environment for both the travelling public and site personnel, noting that the scale and extent of the works is not always apparent from the public road.
“Tipperary County Council would like to thank residents, landowners, businesses and road users for their continued patience and cooperation while these important improvement works are being delivered.
“We acknowledge the inconvenience caused by temporary traffic management arrangements and greatly appreciate the support shown by the local commumity”.
