Memorial bandstand planned in honour of late District Court Judge from Tipperary

A planning application has been submitted to erect a memorial bandstand in honour of the late Judge Elizabeth MacGrath
Plans have been lodged with Tipperary County Council for a memorial bandstand in Tipperary to honour the late Judge Elizabeth MacGrath, recognising her distinguished judicial career, commitment to public service and lasting contribution to the local community.
The planning application was submitted this week to Tipperary County Council by the late Judge’s husband.
The plans outlined in the application show the gazebo would be situated at Dromineer Harbour in Tipperary.
Both the late Judge MacGrath and her husband lived in the locality of Dromineer, Tipperary.
The document outlining the proposed plans states that the structure will be built “to create a lasting tribute to Judge MacGrath's contributions to the community, while enriching the cultural and social fabric of Dromineer.”
It explains that “Judge MacGrath was a distinguished member of the judiciary, known for her integrity, justice, and community involvement. The proposed bandstand reflects her connection to Dromineer and her commitment to public service.”
The late District Court judge and former Tipperary-based solicitor Elizabeth MacGrath passed away aged 65 after a short illness in 2024.
She was recognised as a trailblazer after setting up a sole female practice in 1989 in Nenagh.
Judge MacGrath sat on the District Court in Tipperary since 2012 and is remembered as a “woman of profound integrity, unwavering dedication and a compassionate justice.”
The bandstand planned in her honour will provide many benefits for the local community by offering: a venue for music, arts, and cultural events.
The structure will also strengthen the identity of Dromineer as a tourism and cultural destination.
Tipperary County Council has until August 8 to decide on the planning application for a memorial bandstand at Dromineer Harbour in honour of the late Judge Elizabeth MacGrath.
