Tipperary County Council has been called on to install a raised pedestrian crossing at Brooklands on the outskirts of Nenagh.

Cllr Hughie McGrath, in a motion before the November meeting of Nenagh Municipal District Council, urged that the Council consider the issue in light of a raised crossing being installed on Kenyon Street.

However, he was told by Barry Murphy, district engineer, that the Council was considering a safe route between Tesco and the Borrisokane roundabout and it was important not to do a pedestrian crossing in isolation from that plan, which would involve a footpath and shared cycle path. This will be done under Active Travel and would also make the riverside walk a big attraction.

However, Cllr McGrath said that he didn’t know when that scheme would start and he was looking for work to be done over the next few months.

Cllr Ger Darcy, who seconded the motion, pointed out that a huge number of people used the area and needed a crossing to get to shops
