Nenagh motorist who had loud music in car was found to be over drink driving limit

A motorist who was found drunk in charge of a vehicle in Nenagh has been given a suspended sentence by Judge Elizabeth MacGrath at Nenagh District Court.
Ramunas Petkevicius, 43, of 15 Ormond Keep, Nenagh, pleaded to the offence at Pearse Street, Nenagh, on October 10, 2023.
He also pleaded to having no insurance and no driver’s licence on the same occasion.
The court heard that at 2.40pm on the date in question the garda attention had been drawn to a vehicle parked on the footpath with loud music coming from it.
When the driver was approached the gardaí got a strong smell of alcohol.
A subsequent test showed Mr Petkevicius had 42mgs of alcohol per 100mls of breath.
The court was also told that the defendant had previous convictions for drink driving.
His solicitor, told Judge MacGrath that she had “spoken quite firmly” to her client.
She said Mr Petkevicius had since sold the vehicle and was unemployed.
Judge MacGrath noted that while Mr Petkevicius had not been a danger to anyone, she imposed a four-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, in Mr Petkevicius’s own bond of €500.
She took the charges of no insurance and no driver’s licence into account.
