Scare in Cahir events were sold out over the weekend

As the weather was awful last Saturday at the start of the Scare in Cahir activities, the Saturday events were moved to Bunscoil Na Cathrach at short notice. But that didn’t stop large crowds turning up on the day, families with children all dressed up came along to take part in the pumpkin carving contest, visit the animals at the reptile zoo, enjoy the activities on site and many children were walking around with happy faces painted too!

A huge thank you to Martin Halpin and Bunscoil na Cathrach for hosting the Saturday events for the Scare in Cahir, Andy Moloney and Francis Murray for all their help, doing all the jobs, to Surehaul Ireland for very kindly lending us a van for the weekend; Woodview Service Station for all their support again, thank you to Michelle Ryan, The Animal Roadshow, The Bean Box Café, Shell’s Face painting and the lovely lads from Cahir Fire Station for being with us again this year.

Well done to everybody who entered a pumpkin; there were some fantastic entries again this year and well done to the 3 winners. Thank you to everybody who came out on the day to support Cahir community playground; it might have been miserable and wet outside but there was an amazing buzz in the Bunscoil Na Cathrach hall.

On Sunday once again many people turned up to take a walk along the woodland trail where they were met with strange sounds and screams, fog and flashing lights and were scared by many spooky characters along the way. With lots of screams and shouts and plenty of scares and some exceptional costumes as usual on the day, volunteers and participants went all out to dress up scary! Hot drinks and tasty treats as well as entertainment from The Circus Show were enjoyed in the car park with lots of families gathering there before and after the scary walk.

A sold-out event once again, it’s great to see the popularity of the event growing every year. With over 100 volunteers taking part again this year, the organisers, Friends of Cahir Playground Committee, were supported by Cahir Development Association, Cahir Tidy Towns, Tipperary County Council, South Tipp Development Company, Creative Communities, Local Government Ireland, Creative Ireland, SICAP, Corlann Ireland Siolta Nua and Cahir Abbey and many local businesses, the food & drink vendors and organisations too.

With assistance from Transition Year students, Daughters of Dun Iascaigh, local volunteers and lighting & sound effects contractors, Cahir Community Gardai and Emergency Response Support, there was huge support shown over the 2 days. Well done to all who were involved in any way with the Scare and congratulations to all on another successful event.
