Elaine Scanlon came out on top after a public vote on the Tipperary Live website

Following an amazing response to our 'Pride of the Parish' competition, the Tipperary Star and the Clonmel Nationalist can now reveal the winner as Elaine Scanlon of Thurles Sarsfields Ladies Football Club.

Elaine saw off stiff competition from all the other entries to come out on top of the online vote on the Tipperary Live website, which closed on Thursday, October 22.

A much-loved club stalwart, Elaine was delighted to be named as the John Kennedy Motors 'Pride of the Parish' winner.

"It's not that it's not an absolute privilege to be nominated, but I'm not fit to lace the boots of most of them on the committee!

"It's brilliant, it's a huge honour. When you see the other people that were nominated in other clubs who have given a lifetime of service.

"That's the grassroots and community that's present in a lot of places."

Elaine is a true gael and well-respected figure of local Gaelic Games in Thurles and her hard work and dedication was best described by her club's nomination for the competition.

'Elaine Scanlon is in many ways the heart and soul of our club, giving her time freely to ensure everything runs smoothly both on and off the field.

"She is often the first to arrive and the last to leave, organising club events, coordinating activities, and scheduling training sessions for players of all ages.

"Her commitment helps create a structured and welcoming environment where everyone can enjoy being part of the club.

"Beyond administration and organisation, she takes pride in caring for the club facilities, helping to clean and maintain the clubhouse so that it remains a place the community can be proud of.

"She has a special gift for working with young children, encouraging them, building their confidence, and fostering a love of Gaelic games that will stay with them for life.

"Elaine has played a huge part in recent club fundraisers that support club initiatives, where her organisational skills helped secure the resources needed for the club's future.

"Her generosity, energy, and selfless service make her an inspiration to all.''

The Tipperary Star and Clonmel Nationalist would like to thank all those who voted in the 'Pride of the Parish' competition and especially the nominated clubs for getting involved in the competition.
