Tipperary councillors come to blows over issue with lights on local street

Cllr Jim Ryan and Cllr Peggy Ryan had a disagreement over the raising of an issue with the Christmas lights over Baker Street in Thurles at the Thurles Municipal District meeting last Monday
Two Tipperary County Councillors became involved in a heated verbal altercation during a meeting earlier this week.
The incident occurred during the most recent meeting of the Thurles Municipal District of the Tipperary County Council.
The argument was brought about when Cllr Jim Ryan raised the issue of the Christmas lights on Baker Street in Thurles not being switched on during the festive period.
He stated that he had been contacted by several businesses on the street enquiring as to why the lights were never switched on on their street.
Cllr Ryan was interjected by Cathaoirleach Cllr Peggy Ryan, who stated that Cllr Ryan's issue was not relevant to the issue on the meeting agenda, but rather should have been flagged as a CRM request.
Cllr Ryan told the Cathaoirleach that he was asked by the businesses on the street to enquire as to what the issue was with the lights over Christmas, and that he would not return to them and tell them that he was unable to raise the issue in the meeting.
The Cathaoirleach responded by saying that she would explain to the businesses what a CRM was, and why Cllr Ryan was unable to discuss the matter during the meeting.
Cllr Ryan described the Cathaoirleach's behaviour as 'childish', to which she responded by telling Cllr Ryan that he should know the layout of the meeting and what the standing orders were.
