An arrest warrant was issued by a Kildare Judge on Thursday, July 13, for a man in relation to alleged drink-driving and dangerous driving offences.

The allegations relate to one Leigh Hughes, with an address given as 3512 Bishopsland in Kildare town.

The 37-year-old did not appear in Naas District Court on the date in question.

Gardaí claimed that Mr Hughes was allegedly caught driving dangerously while under the influence of alcohol at Dunmurray Rise in Kildare town on December 31, 2019.

Garda Sergeant Brian Jacob alleged to Judge Desmond Zaidan that a sample of blood taken from Mr Leigh showed that he was 'nearly four times over the legal limit.'

It was further heard that on another date, he was accused of driving without valid insurance or a driving licence in County Kildare.

Judge Zaidan was told that Mr Leigh has two previous convictions for driving with no insurance, and one historical conviction for a drink-driving offence.

Although the judge initially imposed a number of fines and a six-year driving-disqualification on Mr Leigh, he decided to vacate his order, and instead sought a warrant for his arrest.
