A man being prosecuted for an alleged assault was found hiding behind a bed in an apartment in Newbridge.

James Doyle, 36 , whose address was given as 57 North Glebe, Kildare town, faces an allegation of robbery at Sex Road, Newbridge, on December 12.

A second party, a woman, was also charged in connection with the incident.

It’s alleged a wallet and contents were stolen and the injured party is aged in his mid 40s..

Garda Shane Lehane objected to bail being granted.

Gda Lehane claimed the injured party said he had been attacked, physically assaulted including being kicked to the face.

The  injured party was on his way to meet his partner at the time.

He said the injured party pointed out a man and a woman and when the woman was searched she was found to have a pair of scissors.

Naas District Court heard that the man fled to an apartment complex known as Vivian House.

Gda Lehane said assistance was required and a number of units attended the scene.

He also said the defendant went into a dwelling where a friend lived and was located hiding behind a bed frame.

The injured party complained of headaches and was brought to Naas Hospital and has muscle damage.

The defendant was described as a chronic crack cocaine and heroin addict.

Gda Lehane said that property belonging to the injured party was found in a special garda vehicle which has two separate cells. The property was found in a cell in which the defendant travelled to the garda station.

The defendant had previously been in a Tiglin residential centre and left after one day.

The  defendant told the court he left treatment , describing the centre as “a hard place” but he has a place secured at an alternative setting.

The defendant also denied involvement in the incident. He said he was in the apartment but denied he was hiding.

Judge Desmond Zaidan described the incident as a “very serious alleged mugging where the injured party was assaulted and robbed.”

He said the objection was well founded and he refused the application.

The defendant later pleaded guilty to two offences.

The case was adjourned again for the purpose of securing a victim impact statement.
