Cllr Claire O'Rourke (SD) motioned regarding Backweston Campus, Celbridge

The council has confirmed that Backweston Campus, Celbridge, Co Kildare is to be included within the Celbridge-Leixlip-Confey Area Based Transport Assessment (ABTA), as previously committed to.

Cllr Claire O'Rourke (SD) motioned at a recent Celbridge-Leixlip MD meeting for confirmation, including “consideration of any public transport infrastructure improvements required to support existing and future travel demand to the campus, such as enhanced bus stop facilities, shelters and passenger amenities along the R403/R404 corridor.”

A report issued by the council stated that “As previously confirmed, the study area for the Celbridge and Environs Area Based Transport Assessment (ABTA), will include the Backweston Campus area.”

The report further stated that items listed in the motion “will be considered as part of the development of the ABTA.”

However, the report cautioned, some of the elements listed may be “outside the scope of the project.”

Engagement would also be needed with the National Transport Authority – who are responsible for the provision of some of the improvements listed – the report concluded.
