ALLEGATIONS

A Kildare resident was accused of assault causing harm offence, in addition to issuing threats.

The man, who is aged in his 20s, appeared before Judge Desmond Zaidan at Naas District Court on Thursday, November 9 last in relation to the offence.

Gardaí claim that on August 30 last at Dara Park in Newbridge, the man produced a sharp weapon and walked up to a man, and allegedly told him: "I have something for you."

The accused proceeded to stab the man in his shoulder, gardaí claimed, and he was later identified as the perpetrator of the assault by the alleged injured party.

In addition, the defendant faces a separate allegation of producing a weapon and making threats to cause damage to a property in Kildare just a few days later.

The judge was told by gardaí that his ex-partner and their child was among the people residing in the house at the time.

He allegedly also made a threat to stab someone at the property.

All of these offences were allegedly committed while he was on bail for other offences, a garda present in the court claimed.

It was later alleged that he returned to the property a short while later, and followed through on his criminal damage threat by smashing a door with a steel baseball bat.

Despite one garda adamantly objecting to bail for the man, alleging that he showed 'blatant disregard' for his bail conditions,

Judge Desmond Zaidan said that he would grant bail for the defendant.

He ordered the accused to pay his own bond of €1,000 and adjourned the case to a date in April 2024.

Directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions are expected on this date.
