Hold that date as the Barretstown Big Picnic is back and this year promises to be extra special kickstarting the 30th anniversary celebrations of the charity which to date has served over 120,000 seriously ill children.

On Sunday July 7 the Kildare based charity will throw open the gates to its magnificent 500-acre estate, extending an open invitation to all to come and experience the Barretstown magic, and soak up the atmosphere at the fun filled family event.  This event is very generously sponsored by Brady Family Ham who will be hosting fun and delicious sandwich making workshops throughout the day.

There is a fantastic line-up of activities for all to enjoy! Among the highlights are spectacular acts at Fossett's Circus, dazzling magicians, trapeze artists, face-painting, live music, dance along with lots of tasty food and refreshments served on site!

For all those who cannot attend the Barretstown Big Picnic, the option is there to host your own event and lend your support to a superb cause.

Speaking in advance, CEO of Barretstown Dee Ahearn said, “The Big Picnic is a major event for Barretstown and plays an important role, supporting the delivery of our life changing therapeutic programmes for children who are affected by cancer and other serious illnesses. We are looking forward to throwing open the gates to the estate and welcoming as many as possible on site for an amazing family day out, packed with lots of fun and excitement.

“This year marks our 30th anniversary celebrations and it means the Big Picnic is now even extra special doubling up as a major birthday celebration of three decades of having a significant impact on the lives of so many children and families.

“This year we expect to serve over 22,000 children through our residential camps and programmes and through our outreach programmes in hospitals and schools throughout Ireland. We are appealing to as many as possible to come along on July 7 to join us and help us celebrate our 30th anniversary.”
